McConnell told listeners how his own excellent education inspired him to find a way to offer the same opportunity to young people in need in Philadelphia. Cristo Rey is a network of 32 college preparatory high schools, serving more than 10,000 students across the United States. Students take part in a rigorous academic program, as well as a Corporate Work Study Program, that provides students with real world work experiences and funds the majority of their education. At Cristo Rey Philadelphia, 100% of students were accepted into a four year college.

McConnell expressed gratitude for the hard work of many individuals and organizations that serve Cristo Rey students. “Cristo Rey is a pretty extensive collaboration of a lot of different entities in Philadelphia, all for the purpose of doing good for these kids,” said McConnell.

A Better World names the Dr. Phil Foundation Charity Partner of the Month

Dr. John Arden, neuropsychologist and author of Rewire Your Brain, explained how people can improve their own lives by giving back. “I really feel that giving is receiving. So if you’re more capable of being a generous person, you’re really more capable of feeling positive emotions,” said Arden.


A quote from Jenn Lim, Chief Happiness Officer at Delivering Happiness and author of the Zappos culture book, was also included. “We all know happiness is contagious,” said Lim “We believe, one by one, we're creating a happier world.”


Tom Ziglar, son of the late Zig Ziglar, talked about what he believes legacy means and how anyone can create a legacy that helps make the world a better place. “You know, somebody asked me once what does legacy mean? And I said you know, I think a legacy is the subtotal of all of the impacts that you have on others’ lives,” said Ziglar. “So if you impact somebody and they impact somebody and they impact somebody, your legacy extends out three or four generations, three or four different levels.
